Thanks Chris, yeah I doubt many people would be able do their PPL in 50 hours, so thats reassuring.
Nice photos of Pauanui by the way. Just for interest sake, what speed does the Arrow cruise at?
Yeah, I think 80-100 hours is probably about average. I took my time, took a big break (8 years) and switched aircraft halfway through, so I am lucky I got there at all :-)
The Arrow cruises at 135-140, it's 200 hp 4 cyl, is retractable and has constant speed prop. Oh, and fluffy seat covers too...
Gees, what a beast! Beat that wouldn't have to much trouble climbing even four passengers?
If only that was true...
The Arrow has three big disadvantages over an Archer.
1) Retractable = small wheels - not so good on grass
2) Retract + CSU + aircon = more weight, also not good when taking off on grass
3) Short wings = slow climb performance and glides like a brick.
It's faster and more complicated so you really have to fly it by the numbers, and it takes a long long time for the speed to wind up.
If you want a beast, fly JGP. The ability of that plane to climb fully loaded is simply amazing.
